چکیده

I tching or pruritus is an unpleasant sensation that evokes the desire or reflex to scratch. Itching in people with diabetes for the most part suggests a skin condition such as psoriasis, eczema, sunburn, athlete’s foot, hidradenitis suppurativa, pruritus vulvae from monilial infections, xerosis and diabetic eczema, necrobiosis diabeticorum, allergies to medications, drug eruptions, and many other conditions. Most are inflammatory disorders. In addition, there are generalized medical conditions that need to be excluded such as obstructive jaundice (bilirubin is a skin irritant at high concentrations), polycythemia that can cause generalized itching, myxedema, hypoparathyroidism, uremia, iron deficiency anemia, and malignancy or systemic internal cancers such as lymphoma or Hodgkin’s disease (1). When all have been considered and excluded, the question that needs to be answered is, Does the itching derive from a peripheral or a central mechanism?

Analysis of a Genuine Scratch Performance

The art form of manipulating vinyl records done by disc jockeys (DJs) is called scratching, and has become very popular since its start in the seventies. Since then turntables are commonly used as expressive musical instruments in several musical genres. This phenomenon has had a serious impact on the instrument-making industry, as the sales of turntables and related equipment have boosted. Des...

Determination of scratching energy index for Cerchar abrasion test

Rock abrasivity is an essential factor for selecting cutting tools, estimating tool wear and life, and ultimately, matching various mechanized excavation systems with a given geologic condition. It also assists engineers to determine economic limits of different cutting tools and machines used in civil and mining projects. The Cerchar abrasion test is a simple and most widely used method for ro...

Activity of descending propriospinal axons in the turtle hindlimb enlargement during two forms of fictive scratching: phase analyses.

In the preceding companion article (Berkowitz and Stein, 1994b), we showed that many descending propriospinal neurons in the turtle were rhythmically activated during two different motor patterns, fictive rostral scratching and fictive pocket scratching. In this article, we present phase analyses of the activity of each such neuron during fictive scratching. Each neuron's activity was concentra...

Rhythmicity of spinal neurons activated during each form of fictive scratching in spinal turtles.

Are behaviors that rely on common muscles and motoneurons generated by separate or overlapping groups of pattern-generating neurons? This question was investigated for the three forms of scratching in immobilized, spinal turtles. Individual neurons were recorded extracellularly from the gray matter through most of the spinal cord hindlimb enlargement gray matter, but were avoided in the region ...

Activity of descending propriospinal axons in the turtle hindlimb enlargement during two forms of fictive scratching: broad tuning to regions of the body surface.

We recorded the activity of descending propriospinal axons at the caudal end of a seven-segment (D3-D9) turtle spinal cord preparation. These seven spinal segments contain sufficient neural circuitry to select and generate fictive rostral scratching or fictive pocket scratching in response to tactile stimulation in the appropriate region of the body surface. Each turtle received two spinal tran...
